Hi Titaniumboy

Thank you for the compliments.  I am planning to post some more though I have to admit I have moved my main posting to http://www.linuxcnc.org/index……ock-to-cnc as I am getting faster responses and advice from there than from this site and I want to avoid double posting where possible.

I found Linux cnc and was very impressed with the rate and quality of answers I was getting from their forum before I knew Mach 3 existed.  I have seen on numerous occasions where the Linux cnc gets updated with faults and so on which is what I would like to see in software I use and support.

As for stepper motors I got the biggest I could find at a good price and bought some, I also found some IC's that should be able to handle about 4A, whose development I have now put on hold as I found someone supplying a kit of similar IC's complete with PCB and all parts.  I will build the kits and connect everything up when I have it and then see how well it does or does not run my lathe.  Then I can decide whether I need to go for expensive high current drivers or not and whether I need bigger motors or can gear down sufficiently.

Regards

Peet

I have now received my driver kits, though on Saturday I fly to Rotterdam for a 2 week training course so won’t be able to do anything about building until I get back.  Maybe take the kits, a motor and a heat sink with.

I'm sorry that you've seen a slow response here Peet. I have to admit that I've been busy with a lot of life changes since my layoff and subsequent employment as a computer sicence instructor. I've never taught at the college level before, so the past 12 months have been a whirlwind of prep-work.

This is still a young forum so it's activity is a bit low. But honestly my inactivity is part of the reason activity here has trailed off. So I'm sorry for that. But I'm glad you've been able to find help elsewhere, and I'm thankful for you continuing to make the effort to keep us updated on your progress.

NOTE: I work full time and I'm attending college full time as well. So if it takes me a few days to respond, please don't take it personally. If it's urgent please send me a Private Message.
