Hey guys ive got an exciting project underway. At work there is a competition for who can make a golf ball bounce on the water twice before hitting a target (siumilar to the dambusters). However, we are building a cannon not for skimming water, but to blow the target into bits! After reading some magazines i have designed a device and started working on it today. Hopefully we will be able to get up to 1000psi from a nitrogen cylinder. Photos coming soon!

We gotta see a video of your artillery in action, MadRep!   For a second there, I thought you were referring to a cannon to either shoot golfers [somewhat frowned on in some places :)], or a cannon to shoot golfers out of ala 'human cannonball' :):):)

But a cannon to shoot golf BALLS! Make it compact, light, rapid-fire repeating… :) you could sell them here in South Carolina, USA… :) There have been more problems with alligators taking up residence in the ponds/water hazareds on golf courses around here – a pic in the newspaper yesterday of an 8 foot gator being removed from an OCEAN beach… guess he liked the girls in bikinis :):):)

For your next project in 'the arms race', may I suggest by-passing the potato mortar and going right to the beer can mortar.  Take EMPTY beer cans [it's not nice to waste :):)], fill with water & freeze for projectiles… I can see the 'magnum' version, caliber= Foster's 'oil cans' !!! :):):):)

Can hear the news cast now: "After preparing a supply of 'ammunition' for their test, MadRep and his fellow machinists staggered to the nearest golf course where they proceeded to crater every green with additional holes. When confronted by Police, Mr. MadRepillian reportedly asked for some excess golfers to fill in the holes, "You see," he said, "if we ding them with the small golf ball cannon, they won't feel a thing if we cover them up with dirt to fill in these extra holes in the greens."  Police were not amused, and the President of the district golf association speculated as to what part of MadRep's body his members were considering 'filling in' with their golf clubs."

     – Don     Not understanding golf, but definitely understanding the need to shoot golf balls :):)

And i tested this today, it is very dangerous. A rag with a bit of tape round it put a hole through the door from 10meters away. This thing spat out a bit of cloth at 100psi, approx 260fps.. the boys reckoned 300kmph?

Beautiful, oh mighty Reptillian!!!

Hummm, don't think a shoulder holster will do for that chunk of metal… wheels perhaps… or just harness up several extraneous golfers to pull it for ya!

"Dangerous"?? Well it IS a cannon… just hope your buddies don't try to shoot lizards or other assorted reptiles out of it!

"Today in New Zealand, a machinist suffered minor injuries after his mates shot him out of a cannon. When interviewed by authorities, one bloke said, "See, we ran out of beer. We were using the beer cans as ammo in this cannon we built in the shop, and Ernie there, said, 'let's shoot John out of it – that'd be totally mad reptillian', so we did."  Although suffering nothing worse than a skinned knee, John's reply cannot be aired."

Looking forward to a video of the cannon in action.

     – Don     'if it makes a lot of noise AND does damage, its GOTTA be fun!

VISE-GRIPS: Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt
heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer
intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.

haha, its pretty insane, im rather scared of it now. The first try was just a cloth/rag in a ball and it fired beautifully, the second take was a wet rag, and it fired beautifully also, the third was a rag, with 2 strands of tape wrapped around it… = a hole thru the door. This thing is very dangerous! hahha.. here is some pictures of it as i was making it. My friend Kyle welded it all together.

Hi Mad, the video(s) are either too big or the wrong format.

Do you have a YouTube account? It's best to upload them to YouTube, and then link to them here. That way YouTube is hosting the video. And YouTube has a great conversion/compression engine built into the upload process – so it creates a video that's perfectly suited for streaming.

Besides, I'm sure people on YouTube would also love to see it! If you don't have a YouTube account let me know and I can upload it to my account instead (if we can figure out a way for you to send me the video).
