I got a gallon jug of their water based coolant mixed 32 to 1. Any of you guys tried it? What are your thoughts on this type of coolant compared to oil based?  Have you had any problems with your machine rusting from using this stuff?

I'm wondering just what this stuff is made from as well and how it doesn't seem to cause rust at least it hasn't yet.Laugh

I have posted on another thread in response to your comment about coolant.  I don't know if the stuff I use is the same as what you use.  I have not had any problems with my mill or lathe being rusty with using the coolant.   I do, however, keep my mill and lathe beds oiled, as I do this quite regularly.  Hope this helps.  Things may be a bit different here down under!!!  Also here down under I have even had my lathe coolant totally dry out in the tank, leaving a thick sludge of oil in the bottom.  It can get very hot down here!!

When I used to work at a machine tool importer, we carried a water-soluble coolant.  One guy came in one day and said that he found rust stains on his mill table underneath his vice after using it for a while.  I've never used it (too terrified after hearing about the rust stains), but I've never seen the staining for myself.  Pure anecdotal…
