I just finished up this mod to my mill, I must say you really need to do this, if you have a power feed on this mill, specially if you have a dro installed. With the clutch disengaged you have a feel for the table hand wheel. With out the clutch the motor causes a lot of drag and getting a good feel on the hand wheel is almost impossible.

This is the second modification from Paula that I've done to my mill and she did some fine engineering to her drawings and design. I put a link below to her post on the clutch.

I took only some photos of the clutch part, I didn't take any photos of working on the feed screw, do follow her plans and be sure to check the length measurements as they probably will be different, mine were.Laugh

Norman,

Nice modification to your mill.  Looks like it works like a charm.

I wish I had a power feed on my mill.Frown

But I can't justify buying and installing a power feed because it would become superfluous after a CNC conversion.

Here's the photos of the part I made to make the clutch and with it installed.

this is the part for the clutch made to the plans

the inside is bored to the plans.

here the clutch is engaged so the power feed will drive the table

Reach under the table and pull the clutch back and the power feed disengages. This works very good, simple design to make. If you make this be sure to measure the dia. closely and the length of the feed screw closely, if you do it will work right on the first try. Mine did!

I've done only 4 Modifications to my mill. 1. adding a table feed. 2. making the spindle lock. 3. Adding a DRO 4. Making the feed screw clutch. All to me seemed like good thing to add to the mill.
