Hi Tony and welcome.

 

In addition to the Sparey book, I found the two volume training set from Moltrecht and Jones (Machinist Practice or some such titles) to be very helpful. They were used as texts in vocational schools, so they are thorough and go slow. Best price for them is at Enco (no connection, just a customer). Audel also makes a machinist handbook and Starrett produces a handbook for the student machinist. These are "must haves" for the beginner, in my opinion.
