G'day,

As you can tell by the screen name and opening line, I'm not originally from Missouri. Spent almost half my life around Melbourne, Australia and studied Mechanical Engineering at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology  (RMIT).

My studies at RMIT included a lot of workshop time in the machining facility. We ran giant old lathes, mills, surface polishers, pantographs. Pretty much a dream workshop for anyone!

I've finally managed to get myself a lathe for home use, some 10 years after leaving RMIT. Just picked up a Grizzly G0602 lathe and am in the process of putting together my home shop.

Along with the lathe I got a G5757 Compound Slide Table, which will be mounted to a G9578 Slotted Angle Plate. I picked up a G5715 MT4-MT3 sleeve and G9541 3/8" endmill holder. I'm planning on modifying the sleeve so I can pass a drawbar through the end and pick up the 3/8-16 thread in the endmill holder.

This should combine to give me a reasonable setup for light milling operation as well as excellent turning capabilities.

Still in the crate

I was living and working as a Machine Designer up near Chicago, accepted a job offer that paid to move us from the Chicago area. Much lower cost of living, better environment for raising a family.
