OfflineI think my post was lost. I would call HF and ask if they will accept a 20% coupon on the 8x12 lathe. Ironring1 is spot on with his comparrison of the HF vrs Lathemaster versions. I didn't get all the accessories but I had fun making my own. I got a 4" and 6" four jaw independant chucks from 800watt on e-Bay for next to nothing – they do what I need. The only real cons for the 8x12/14 lathe are the weight (240lbs), and the lack of varriable speed (belt drive). But all in all, it is a solid piece of equipment that was ready out of the box. I think the lathe is made by Eagle Industries in China.
Regards, Al

OnlineWelcome Bob!
It's been a few months now, what lathe did you finally settle on? Are you having fun yet?

Hi Tyler.
The lathe is on hold for now as I had to put a new roof on our house, ouch! I am keeping my eyes open for a good deal.
I probably will not buy until next year but Thanks for asking.

OnlineBummer about the roof. No worries tho, the site will still be here when you get your lathe and if you have any questions in the meantime, don't hesitate to ask!

OfflineHi Bob, and welcome..
I also would suggest you consider a 8x12 or similar minilathe- some excellent work can be produced on these machines. Take a look at Frank Hoose's web site, which goes through the various models.
A club is a wonderful idea is you have one locally.
I find I learn best by watching someone else do it.
Good luck!
Nelson
