Hi Guys
I am a 62 yrs young retired marine engineer from England but now reside in Spain.
I am looking forward to the delivery of a new Crusader lathe (currently on a "very" slow boat from China.
I am mainly interested in making model stem engines and accessories for my lathe and milling machine ( I have a Seig SX3)
Regards
Gordy

Hello Gord,
Welcome! There are several of us here who wanted a metal lathe for a cou0le of centuriew before we finally took the plunge. My BGT [big green tank] combination lathe/mill/drill press is also from China – I always say it's made from a melted down chinese military tank because it's soo heavy, over-enginerred, massive, AND still green! :)
With your professional experience, I'm sure you will have lots of 'real-world' tips for us beginners.
– Don wondering how I ever got along without a metal lathe all those years!!! :):):)

Hi Gordy, welcome to the site.
I had to wait weeks for my Grizzly 10x22 lathe since it was on backorder. Even though I had waited for years to finally buy a lathe, something about paying for it and not being able to take it home the same day really bothered me. I thought about all the fun projects I would be able to make and I read metalworking books and magazines every night. My wife was really surprised at how "obsessed" I had become with the hobby – even before the lathe arrived. The good thing was I knew a lot more about my machine and what I wanted to do with it by the time it arrived. But it was still a long wait.
In short, I feel your pain.
Any idea what your first project might be? Something you've seen on this site or something from somewhere else? Just curious. My first project was a spring center, and then the soft faced hammer. I wouldn't have been able to plunge into a steam engine right away until after I got used to my lathe by working out the kinks on less tolerance-intensive projects.

Thanks Don & Tyler for the welcome.
My first projects will be a pump centre and a tailstock die holder. Also a tap holder to follow and a peck drill.
These items are essential for starters prior to making an attempt at engines.
Thanks
Gordy
